Our #SuperSaver of the week: the majestic Manuel Neuer of Germany

Good afternoon, lovely football fans! Hope you all had a great weekend of saving! I’m back with the announcement of our #SuperSaver of the week. It hasn’t been an easy decision as we’ve seen some world class goalkeepers testing their super saving ability, stopping shots from the world’s best strikers – Ronaldo scored four goals this weekend, very impressive!

As the Premier League is put on ice for the international break, I turn my commentary efforts to the 2016-17 World Cup qualifiers, where over 30 national sides met over the weekend! The winner of the #SuperSaver of the week award goes to Bayern Munich and Germany national goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, for his demonstration of brilliance and skill! Well done to you, sir. Germany played the Czech Republic this weekend, coming out on top with a 3-0 win, a competitive match where the score-line didn’t reflect the battle fought between the two sides. The Czech Republic put up a worthy fight, forcing nine shots at Manuel Neuer who didn’t concede a single goal! That’s very impressive from the keeper who is clearly in great form!

Germany won the most recent World Cup in 2014, beating Lionel Messi and Argentina 1-0, another skilled clean sheet from Manuel Neuer, let’s see if he can do it again in 2018. Here is Mario Götze with the World Cup winner.

It would be boring to only have one #SuperSaver award, so we’re going to include two more – one for the goalie with the most clean sheets, and one for the best save. We keep you entertained, don’t we! The award for the most clean sheets goes to Manuel Neuer once again – he’s having a fantastic week. Finally, the award for the best save of the week goes to Gianluigi Buffon of Italy, for his dramatic off the line save against Macedonia on Sunday.

Scottish Friendly is as keen on the performance of football’s best savers as we are on financial savings. The hard work that keepers put into saving, while under such great pressure, can be held up as an example to us all. So, we’re also running an epic amateur goalkeeper competition to find the UK’s top #SuperSaver from non-league, school, and community teams. If you want to win £250 worth of football gear for you or a goalkeeper you know, check out our competition here.

Interested in saving? This competition is brought to you by Scottish Friendly, which offers a range of investment products including ISAs and Junior ISAs. As with all stock market investments, the value of your investment can go down as well as up and you could get back less than you have paid in.
