High school pupils from Dundee to Glasgow are set to be inspired by the edgy and topical writing of contemporary teen author Saci Lloyd. Saci will be touring 10 schools as she embarks on the next Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour from Monday 19 March to Friday 23 March.
The Manchester-based author is admired by young people for her outspoken character and political style – her work tackles big issues facing young society such as the increasingly frantic pace of global technology and environmental concerns about global warming, decreasing biodiversity and overpopulation, while inviting her readers to engage in the story through lively dialogue and diary narrative. Saci is passionate about getting young people to participate in debate and creating their own stories through writing.
She has published three books to date; The Carbon Diaries 2015, The Carbon Diaries 2017, and Momentum.
Saci starts her tour at High School of Dundee and St John’s RC in Dundee on Monday 19 March. On Tuesday she will then travel to Grove Academy then Morgan Academy in Dundee, followed by James Young High School in Livingston and Whitburn Academy in Bathgate on Wednesday 21 March. On Thursday she will visit Inveralmond Community High School in Livingston followed by Linlithgow Academy. Finally on Friday 23 March she will visit St Columba’s High School in Greenock, and St Stephen’s High School, Port Glasgow. Full details of the tour are listed below, and Saci will be meeting pupils from S1 & S2.
Saci commented: “I am really excited about my upcoming Scottish Friendly Book Tour to Dundee, West Lothian, and Inverclyde. I always have a great time when I come north of the border; the kids are so lively and well read, it's a real pleasure to take part in events with them.”
Michael Merillo, acting children's events manager at Scottish Book Trust added: “Saci’s books are truly inventive and illustrate key political debates that affect young adults. It is great to have such an enthusiastic author on tour; we are looking forward to seeing the reaction on the faces of the many pupils she meets.”
The Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour is sponsored by Scottish Friendly, Scotland’s largest mutual and one of the UK’s leading friendly societies and is run by Scottish Book Trust, Scotland’s leading agency for the promotion of literature, reading and writing. The tour aims to bring the best children’s authors directly to young readers around Scotland and bring literature alive in the unique magical way that only meeting the person who crafted the words can.
