Caroline Lawrence set to inspire Lothian's historical writers of the future

Press release - 4th June 2013

Children across East Lothian and Midlothian are in for a literary treat as renowned children’s author Caroline Lawrence embarks on a tour around various primary schools in the areas.

Praised for her vivid and colourful, historical tales, Caroline will guide pupils through developing a plot, creating characters and telling the story.

The events are part of the second Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour of 2013. Nearly 2000 children in the Lothians will have the chance to learn first-hand the art of storytelling.

Caroline will visit nine schools during the tour, including four in Midlothian from 11 to 12 June, and a further five schools in East Lothian from 10 to 14 June. She will also participate in the Borders Book Festival on 14 June.

Caroline Lawrence is well known for fusing her love of history with children’s stories. Her first series was set in Ancient Rome while her new series sees her moseying on down to the Wild West. She researches the period thoroughly to ensure authenticity in her stories; from chewing tobacco to learning to shoot a cowboy pistol to visiting ruined lavatories in Ostia, Italy. Her curiosity for life and appetite for adventure shines through in her books and inspires young fans of her novels.

Caroline’s Roman Mysteries series has also been turned into a television series for CBBC.

Commenting on her upcoming tour, Caroline Lawrence said:

“I’m so pleased to be invited to take part in the Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour. It is such a fantastic opportunity to introduce children to the world of writing and I can’t wait to get on the road. There have been so many quality authors involved in the tour over the years and I consider myself lucky to be counted amongst them. I’ll be entertaining the kids with my stories and of course give them a bit of a history lesson at the same time!”

“Caroline is in huge demand as her events are so popular among teachers and pupils and so we are thrilled that she has been able to come on tour for a whole week. Her blend of historical fiction, action and adventure will inspire legions of fans in East Lothian and Midlothian."
