Press release - 24th June 2013

Scottish Friendly Assurance, Scotland's largest mutual organisation, has won the Financial Services Company of the Year award at the Scottish Business Awards 2013. The accolade was presented by Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary John Swinney.

The prestigious event, held on Friday 21 June at the EICC in Edinburgh was attended by over 1,700 guests, with former President Bill Clinton delivering the keynote speech. Scottish Friendly came first in its category among seven other shortlisted financial services organisations.

Despite challenging economic times, Glasgow-based Scottish Friendly has continued its extraordinary record of success since chief executive Fiona McBain took the helm in 2006. In 2012 the organisation delivered a significant increase in like-for-like life and pensions sales over the previous year and secured two major new business partnerships - with Beagle Street (BGL), part of the group behind '', and Neilson Financial Services under its Smart Insurance brand.

Ms McBain commented: "Everyone at Scottish Friendly is tremendously proud of this award. It recognises the effort and dedication that everyone in the organisation has put into our customer focused growth over recent years. Our success has been built by a clear strategy with customers at the heart of all we do, high quality and efficient service, state-of-the art technology and developing innovative new products. It's through this focus that we will continue to deliver benefits to our customers and business partners."
