Scottish Friendly Children's Book tour to bring wonders of numbers to Perthshire schools

Magical mathematician to bring wonders of numbers to local schools

Acclaimed children’s author and entertainer, Kjartan Poskitt, will inspire primary school children from Perth and Kinross to Stirling in the forthcoming Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour.

Throughout the tour, which will take place from 15-17 June, Yorkshire-born Poskitt will bring the wonders of numbers to more than 900 local school children. He will show pupils how exciting, useful and entertaining maths can be in a series of highly energetic and fun-packed workshops, designed to inspire children to enjoy maths and reading.

Kjartan has penned more than 50 titles since 1989, translated into 25 languages, including the highly acclaimed Murderous Maths series, Urgum the Axeman and his brand new book The Murderous Maths of Everything. He is well known for his entertaining work on children’s TV and is an ambassador for World Non-Fiction Day.

The Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour is run by Scottish Book Trust, Scotland’s leading agency for the promotion of literature, reading and writing. The tour aims to give children across Scotland, even those in the most rural and remote areas, access to the best UK children’s authors. A dedicated Facebook page has been set up to keep fans up to date with the latest authors’ news and tours at www.facebook.com/Meet-Our-Authors.

The Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour has visited all 32 Scottish local authorities in the last three years, bringing the best children’s authors directly to their readers.

Calum Bennie, marketing manager at Scottish Friendly, which has supported the touring programme for more than 11 years, said:

This tour provides an exclusive platform for children across Scotland to meet some of the most inspiring authors of our time. Scottish Friendly remains devoted to nurturing literacy and numeracy in Scotland’s young people and this latest tour with Kjartan Poskitt is guaranteed to get children in Perth, Kinross and Stirling fired up about reading and arithmetic.
