I’ve got form having a go at the Baby Boomer generation, the rock and roll generation that wanted to live fast and die young. Where the Baby boomer generation has gone chaos has tended to follow. They caused booms and bubbles in nappies, schools, housing and arguably the recent stock market booms and busts. But this. Well this takes the biscuit. In fact this takes…

Having very little hair myself, I felt a little underdressed as St Paul’s. It was CRAZY HAIR DAY! In the P3/4 classrooms there was spiky hair, spotty hair, stripy hair, pink hair, green hair, (this is sounding like a poem, isn’t it?) multi-coloured top knots not to mention back-combing with One Direction slides. Oh yeah! There were many highlights in the session – including children…

Oh golly, what a fun morning with Mrs Hunter’s and Mr Menzies’ P3s from Neilston Primary! Once we’d done a bunch of action rhymes we did a few riddles, and then we moved on to writing not one but two poems! As their topic is the Ancient Egyptians, we started a pyramid-shaped Egyptians kenning that the classes will continue…   Who Were We? Pyramid builders…

There is a wonderful Blackadder line that applies tonight. “You are a girl with as much talent for disguise as a giraffe in dark glasses trying to get into a ‘Polar Bears Only’ golf club.” Today George Osborne blew a dog whistle over tax cuts and you really have to be quite deaf not to hear it. But George, he’s a canny one. He dressed…

Oh wow, what a morning at St Cadoc’s! We were invited into the hall to discover a magnificent display of shape poems – poems in  the shape of computers, light bulbs, lollipops, water bottle, door, a shirt, all sorts! How imaginative! Great poems too. And, what’s more, they had done some amazing modrock models of my poems ‘Tree’ and ‘The  Moon Speaks!’ I just loved…

The new NISA at first glance look like they will be great news. Let’s start with the obvious – a single simple cap of £15,000 a year into your ISA with no restrictions on how you invest it. Talk about setting the people free! The new regime will preserve the concept of a client being entitled to two ISAs (sorry NISAs – that is going…

Another fantastic day! Got back to the hotel buzzing! A BIG, BIG thank you yet again to the DYNAMIC DUO that is Beth and Antonia! # Spent the morning with the rather brilliant P4 and P5 at Todholm Primary. I was given an incredible reception from Mrs Bell, clearly a woman who adores poetry, and she even did a curtsey for me in the reception…

What a fantastic first day! You Scots certainly know how to make an English poet feel very welcome. During this week I will be visiting ten schools in East/Renfrewshire – giving performances of poetry and music (with my guitar, Keith – not to mention some rather wonky honky tonk piano). During the shows we will even write a piece which the children can then use…

This March the Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour will be travelling to the sunny streets of Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire with the playful poet James Carter. We will be visiting ten schools for a week of fantastic events for primary school pupils. James will be whipping over 1000 pupils into a frenzy of imagination and excitement with poetry, music and sing-a-long songs. During the tour…
