Celebrated author and illustrator Nick Sharratt needs little introduction. He is known all over the world for his rich, iconic illustration style found most notably in his collaborations with Jacqueline Wilson and Julia Donaldson but also his own award-winning picture books such as recent Bookbug Picture Book Prize winner, Shark in the Park on a Windy Day!

Children, teachers and parents alike were very excited when we announced that Scottish Book Trust and Scottish Friendly would be taking Nick Sharratt on a magical mystery tour of Liverpool!

Over the course of a week the tour ventured to all corners of Liverpool, with the help of The Reader, a literacy social enterprise group. We visiting 10 primary schools, with another 9 schools attending sessions, with over 2400 P1-4 pupils sharing Nick’s passion for drawing and rhyming.

Nick’s sessions were really inspiring and it was amazing to see how children as young as 4 producing their own brilliant drawings using Nick’s accessible drawing style and tutorial. There was plenty of pupil participation and fun and games using rhymes. There was applause and awe as Nick dazzles us all with his jelly juggling skills and hysterical mayhem as pupils and teachers battled it out to be crowned bagel balancing champion!

All the schools made a brilliant effort to promote and get excited for the tour. One schools chose to promote Nick’s books Pants by designing and decorating their own pair of pants and wearing them to the session (including teachers), while another school all wore shark fins in celebration of Shark in the Park on a Windy Day!

A huge thank you to Nick, The Reader and to all the schools we saw for a fantastic week!

Congratulations to Taya Pyke from Bournemouth who won a signed copy of Shark in the Park on a Windy Day! in our Nick Sharratt competition!
