Online security

At Scottish Friendly, we take the security of your personal and financial details very seriously.

Here's what we do to keep your details safe when applying online.

Protecting your data with encryption

We encrypt (put into a secret code) all the information you send through our online applications to keep it safe. The encryption process takes the characters you enter and converts them into code that is then securely transmitted over the Internet to make sure that we're the only ones who can read it.

You'll see when you're in a secure part of our site, as the web address starts with https (the 's' stands for secure).

How to spot a secure web page

Depending on your browser software (e.g. Internet Explorer), you'll see a picture of a padlock to the right of the web address or in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. If you double-click the padlock, you'll see the security certificate for that website.

If you're using a public computer or terminal, always log out and close the browser when you've finished.

We will never email or call you to ask you to disclose or verify your debit card or bank account details. If you are contacted or receive an unsolicited email which asks you for these details, ignore the email and report the incident to us.
