Barry Hutchison to terrify teens on Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour in Greater Manchester

Just in time for Halloween, The Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour, in association with Scottish Book Trust, will be back on the road again with award-winning author Barry Hutchison. The Horror and Horsemen Tour will be visiting schools in the Greater Manchester area between 8 and 12 October 2012 giving 1,500 school pupils the chance to meet and interact with the popular author.

Barry will be talking to school pupils about his best-selling horror series, Invisible Fiends, as well as discussing his latest book, The 13th Horseman.

The author will be visiting 10 different Greater Manchester locations over four days, giving school pupils the opportunity to ask their burning questions. Schools taking part include Turton High School, Alder Grange Community Technology School, Failsworth School and St. Paul’s Catholic High School. A number of primary schools are also joining in the fun including St. Paul’s Peel, St. Charles R.C. Primary and St Paul’s C of E.

Barry Hutchison won critical acclaim for his series, Invisible Fiends, the first of which, Mr Mumbles, won the Royal Mail Awards for Scottish Children’s Books in 2010.

The Horror and Horsemen Tour is one of more than 50 tours which Scottish Friendly has sponsored in a bid to bring literacy to life. Since it began 14 years ago, the Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour has brought famous authors such as Julia Donaldson and Michael Morpurgo to meet school children in Scotland and England.

Speaking of his excitement surrounding the tour, Barry Hutchison said:

I am really looking forward to visiting Manchester and meeting the school pupils. It’s always great to get the opportunity to interact with my readers.

Calum Bennie, Marketing Manager for Scottish Friendly said:

This tour is particularly special since it’s only our third south of the border. The Horror and Horsemen Tour is great timing as the terrifying tales are perfect to get you in the mood for the spooky season.

Born and raised in the Highlands of Scotland, Barry Hutchison wrote his first book aged 12 and sold a screenplay when he was 17 years old. He signed a six-book deal with publishers Harper Collins in 2008. He completed the final book in the Invisible Fiends series, The Darkest Corners, in August 2012.
