Apprenticeship programme at Scottish Friendly
At Scottish Friendly, we've all kinds of colleagues doing all kinds of jobs. We're committed to supporting young people in our community with training, skills development and job opportunities.
All our apprenticeships are aligned to specific needs within the financial services industry. We recognise the importance of combining learning with on-the-job training.
We work with training providers who are the best in their sector. And you’ll be supported every step of the way by colleagues who are experts in their field. Find out more about life as an apprentice at Scottish Friendly below, from two of our colleagues - Dylan and Charlie - currently working their way through our apprenticeship programme.
Dylan Sandhu - IT Apprentice
I started at Scottish Friendly as an IT Apprentice a year ago and I'm currently completing my SVQ. The apprenticeship allows me to venture into the life of working in an office and gets me used to it at a younger age rather than later on in life.
This apprenticeship will help me understand how an Infrastructure department works in a business as my ambition is to progress within IT.
At Scottish Friendly, stepping out of my comfort zone is something I have often been encouraged to do – from working on a broad range of matters with senior colleagues to supporting multiple departments.
Aaron Andrews – Actuarial Graduate Apprentice
I started my journey with Scottish Friendly as an intern in the Pensions department whilst I was still at school. Fast forward a year and I'm now on a graduate apprenticeship programme working as a part of the company's Actuarial Valuation team - the sky is the limit!
Scottish Friendly is playing a key part in helping me fast-track my early career development by allowing me the chance to balance full-time work with study. I'm working towards a level 4 Actuarial Technician qualification for now, building up my basic actuarial knowledge before moving onto the latter part of my apprenticeship when I will begin my IFoA qualifying exams.
I may still be early-doors career wise however I can confidently say that the ethos at Scottish Friendly is unmatched in comparison to the other offices I've worked in.
I've seen firsthand that the company is full of great people that are always striving to help one another thrive and grow. I can say with certainty that I'm glad I chose to start my career at Scottish Friendly.
