Crookfur Primary School pupils get up close and personal with Children's Laureate Julia Donaldson

Pupils from Crookfur Primary School in Glasgow became budding reporters for the day as they interviewed Children’s Laureate and award-winning author Julia Donaldson at her home in Bearsden, Glasgow.

Hana Afzal, Alyson Bell, Steven Collingham and Matthew Liddle of P5, took part in the exclusive question and answer session as part of the Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour which is managed by Scottish Book Trust.

Filmed in Julia’s living room, where many of her inspirational story ideas have come to life on paper, the video can be viewed on the Scottish Book Trust website.

Not only did the Crookfur pupils learn about Julia’s own childhood aspirations, they even got the opportunity to explore Julia’s prop room and dress up as some of their favourite characters from her books.

When asked about her advice to young aspiring authors, Julia said,

My best piece of advice would be for children to read absolutely everything they can get their hands on.

Scottish Friendly, Scotland’s largest mutual and one of the UK’s leading friendly societies has enjoyed a successful partnership with Scottish Book Trust, Scotland’s leading agency for the promotion of literature, reading and writing, for the past 14 years.

Calum Bennie, marketing manager for Scottish Friendly said:

Julia Donaldson is one of those authors that kids dream about meeting. I’m delighted we could make that dream come true for these children and, hopefully, we will have inspired some of the writers of tomorrow.
