With-Profits Customers

The following information is guidance and is strictly for internal use only

The With-Profits communication pack has been mailed to all customers who have a With-Profits fund, this includes open and closed books and provides a comprehensive overview of the changes and customer impact as a result of the merger with OneFamily.

The With-Profits letter includes an Appendix which lists the With-Profits policy or policies the customer holds with Scottish Friendly and how they will be impacted.

The letter explains whether the customer will be able to continue to pay future premiums into the With-Profits fund or if this is not possible, where future premiums will default to after the merger date. This is determined by whether the customer has a contractual premium policy or non-contractual premium policy.

Contractual policies and Non-contractual policies

The following table provides the full list of all the products within the Contractual premium cohort and Non-contractual premium cohort and what this means for the customer. The With-Profits customer communication Appendix will provide the customer with information about their product and impact on future payments.

Contractual Premium policies

These policies allow customers to continue making regular premium payments in line with their product terms and conditions. As outlined in the With-Profits merger communication, customers can continue paying premiums after the merger. Any future payments will be invested in the new closed With-Profits fund, known as the SFAS sub-fund.

Non-contractual premium policies

These policies are based on individual single premium investments, meaning each payment is treated as a separate investment rather than part of a contractual regular premium commitment. As a result, customers will be able to continue investing regular premiums into the With-Profits fund up to the merger effective date.

After the merger effective date, future premiums will instead be invested in the default fund, the Mixed Asset: Balanced Fund. Customers who would prefer to invest in a different fund will continue to have that choice. This category mainly includes ISA and Junior ISA products, although a small number of ISAs are treated as contractual premium policies as these policies only have the With Profits fund to invest in (Bonus ISA, My Sovereign ISA & LANMAS ISA).

The Mixed Asset Balanced Fund has been chosen as the preferred alternative because it offers a well-diversified mix of investments designed to deliver long-term growth while managing volatility. We believe it provides the closest match to the needs of the majority of customers and supports good customer outcomes following the closure of the With Profits Fund.
