Scottish Friendly colleagues lend a helping hand at Action for Children service

Colleagues from Scottish Friendly came together in June to support Action for Children’s Loom Walk short breaks service in Kilbarchan, giving their time to help enhance the environment for children and families who rely on the centre.

Across two dedicated volunteering days, teams stepped away from their day-to-day roles to contribute to hands-on improvements at the service. Colleagues showed real commitment to making a positive difference in the local community.

Working alongside the on-site team, volunteers carried out a variety of practical tasks to refresh both indoor and outdoor spaces. This included decorating rooms, tidying communal areas and improving the garden, helping to ensure the centre remains a safe, welcoming and engaging space for young people.

Loom Walk provides vital support for children with additional needs, as well as offering essential respite for families and carers. The work carried out by Scottish Friendly colleagues will help the service continue delivering a high-quality experience for those who depend on it.

Scottish Friendly colleague, Louise Bird said:
“Spending time at Loom Walk really highlighted the importance of services like this. It was great to work together and know that what we were doing would have a direct and lasting impact.”

Action for Children Renfrewshire Short Breaks Service, Residential Support Worker, Lorraine Begbie said:

“A huge thank you to all the amazing volunteers from Scottish Friendly who gave their time and energy to help paint rooms and the garden area for our children that come to stay at Loomwalk. Your kindness, hard work and generosity have helped create brighter, more welcoming spaces where our children can learn, grow, and thrive. We are truly grateful for your support.”

Action for Children supports hundreds of thousands of children, young people and families across the UK through essential services focused on wellbeing, mental health and resilience. Scottish Friendly is proud to play a part in supporting their work.
