Children’s Author Christiane Dorion to Pop-Up in Dundee / Inverclyde / West Lothian
Acclaimed author Christiane Dorion is visiting schools in Dundee, Inverclyde and West Lothian from 14 - 18 March 2016 as part of the Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour.
Christiane’s interactive pop-up books encourage children to explore the world, answering complex questions such as how did the universe begin? Where did humans come from? How do polar bears keep warm and what is a carbon footprint?
An expert in education for sustainable development, Christiane has also worked for the WWF and produced environmental education guidelines for the National Curriculum. During the tour, she will talk to over 900 pupils about her latest books How the World Began and How Animals Live, sharing a feast of fascinating facts about the history of our planet and the eco-systems which survive on it. Her sessions will be packed with experiments and demonstrations; using hands-on fun to inspire children to explore the complex systems of the world and encouraging them to take positive action in order to protect our planet.
Commenting on her upcoming tour, Christiane said:
I am so thrilled to have been invited by Scottish Book Trust to do a book tour in March. I have had the privilege of doing a number of events and workshops in Scotland over the last few years and was so impressed by how enthusiastic and engaged the children were. I can’t wait to meet them and to introduce them to my new book ‘How the World Began’.
The tour is sponsored by Scottish Friendly Assurance and organised by Scottish Book Trust. Every year schools in up to 12 local authorities in Scotland and two in England receive author visits to inspire a love of reading, writing and illustration. The tour visits both primary and secondary schools and has enthralled over 70,000 children since it began in 1998.
Commenting on Christiane’s tour, Calum Bennie, Communications Manager at Scottish Friendly said:
Scottish Friendly is delighted to have Christiane on our Children’s Book Tour this spring. Particularly when they’re young, children are naturally extremely inquisitive so Christiane’s sessions in Inverclyde, Dundee and West Lothian are sure to not only satisfy this curiosity but stimulate and involve children’s thinking about the world around them.
Beth Bottery, Schools Events Manager at Scottish Book Trust, which is organising the tour, added:
We are really looking forward to visiting schools in Dundee, Inverclyde and West Lothian with Christiane. Her books are extremely interactive and are sure to create some interesting discussions during the tour.
Scottish Friendly has sponsored the programme for the past 17 years, touring some of the finest children’s authors and illustrators including new Children’s Laureate Chris Riddell, Malorie Blackman, Michael Rosen, Jacqueline Wilson, Melvin Burgess, Steve Cole, Michael Morpurgo and Sophie McKenzie.
